I may be gone but I won't be long
I'll be bringing back the melody
and the rhythm that I find
I'll be bringing back the melody
and the rhythm that I find
What could be more fitting than lines from a Cowboy Junkies song to kick off my first post after an 18-day trip to Canada? With my wife, my parents, my siblings and their families (a band of twelve), I figure we must have covered approximately 19,000 miles: from Singapore to Vancouver; from Vancouver to Banff; from Banff to Jasper; and finally back to Singapore again. No it's not one of those trips where there's friction and then we all end up closer as a family. There was friction, and I ended up wondering I could be even remotely related to one of my sisters. Like Springsteen said, she may be family, but she just ain't no good, and I'm tired of looking the other way ... but I digress.
The trip not only gave me time away from work, it also allowed me some time to center and refocus on various aspects of my life, including what I'm doing on this blog. Yes, I admit I've been lax on the updates, but that don't mean it's not important. Between my brain-numbing real-world job and other demands of everyday life, it became more difficult to set aside some sit-down time for dedicated writing. On top of that, my blog has always weighed pretty heavy on championing Blu-ray as the successor to DVD's throne in home entertainment. At the present time, the naysayers have all but finished eating their words with a fork and spoon, save for a few flat-earth types (see here and here). Blu-ray was even designated one of the worst tech products of 2008 by Yahoo! What I mean is, we could go on debating, but I seriously think it's time for impassioned ayes and nays among the industry pundits end and let market forces and consumers decide.
So, where does this leave us? No, it doesn't mean no more Blu-ray updates and news. Rather, I'd like to try and focus on why I started this blog in the first place: the love of movies. It's not a lofty ideal, so let's hope I don't succeed at screwing up something as elemental as this.
In the meantime, I've got to get back to working on the 2,000 plus pictures I took on the trip. Here's a look at some of them (it is "Moving Pictures," after all).
Happy holidays, everyone!
